It's a Round Round World

When: Fall 2019-Spring 2020

Team: Myself

Story: This illustrates my path to understanding the role of design in creating and influencing conversations.

After watching "Plastic China" in 2019, I became really interested in the disposal and management of waste. It made me realize that the reason we don't care for the environment is because we've become disconnected from it, so I started a journey to explore different ways of reconnecting people.

Phase 1: The Disposal Game

Design as a learning/brainstorming tool

Working with limitations that mimicks the complexities of waste disposal, players are asked to make decisions on the fate of objects.

Phase 2: Welcome to the Future

Design as a way of envisioning something new

I proposed a future where disposal and recovery are visible in our daily lives to re-establish a connection to the materials we consume. By doing this, I hope to help conceptualize a new system and encourage further discussion.

Phase 3: It's a Round Round World

Design as storytelling

With the audience of mothers in mind, I created a short film from the perspective of a new mother. The film goes through the birth and growth of a child as she enters the outside world where she is faced with the reality of the flawed recycling system and its impact on everyday life.
